Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees boasts 46,500 acres with 1300 miles of shoreline making it one of the largest lakes in Oklahoma for waterfront property and lake homes. With community-wide events almost every weekend, Grand Lake is an excellent family destination. Pelican Fest, Lobster Fest, the bobber drop, Aquapalooza, GLOC shootout and plenty more events to check out. For the more active lake goers, Grand Lake offers parasailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, water trampolines and endless boating activities. Below the dam, rock bed of the spillway has become a popular destination for hundreds of off-road enthusiasts every year.
Grand Lake is also host to many different fishing tournaments, including the coveted Bassmaster Classic, held here in 2013 & 2016.
The newly built Shangri-La Resort Hotel & Event Center on Monkey Island has brought even more visitors to the area. The hotel offers 119 rooms, a large resort pool, luxury spa, fine dining and best of all one of Oklahoma’s top golf courses.
Living the grand life owes its existence to the Pensacola Dam and the Oklahoma visionaries who created Grand River Dam Authority. The Pensacola Dam is the worlds longest multiple arch dam spanning approx. one mile. There are 21 floodgates on the main spillway and 21 floodgates on the east spillways. Starting Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend, free tours of the dam are offered at the Grand River Dam Authority Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley.
